West Coast Developers Hear Pervious Solution to Storm water Management

January 28, 2008. Tigard, OR. Officials from Portland, OR. and its surrounding municipalities recently co-sponsored a seminar for developers called "Green from the Ground Up - A Seminar on Storm water Management with Pervious Surfaces."

Dan Huffman of the National Concrete Ready Mixed Association one of the main speakers on the topic of pervious concrete.

Various materials technologies were represented, including pervious concrete, which was presented by Huffman.

The program was also co-sponsored by the Home Builders Association of Metropolitan Portland and took place at its headquarters so the focus was primarily residential applications. However, because of the broad agency involvement and presentations of competing products, especially porous asphalt, Huffman crafted his presentation to also represent the commercial sector with a lot "on the line" in that competitive environment.

Huffman's presentation was well received and a panel discussion and extensive question and answer session also took place.

Also supporting our industry as exhibitors of pervious concrete technology through their respective displays and literature distribution were NRMCA members Dave Frentress (Glacier Northwest), Bill Montgomery (Cemex), Scott Erickson (Quality Concrete/Evolution Paving) and Rory Rorabaugh of the Northwest Cement Producers Group, an affiliate of the Portland Cement Association. Also representatives of Ash Grove Cement Co. were in attendance.
